The Ernesto Che Guevara Memorial

The Ernesto Che Guevara Memorial

The city of Santa Clara was made internationally famous since it was the setting of the last and decisive battle against Batista led by legendary figure Che Guevara and his guerrilla in December, 1958. A massive monument to Che Guevara was built in the late 1980’s to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the battle of Santa Clara. A memorial containing Che’s remains and those of his guerilla found in Bolivia in the mid-1990’s was recently added. The whole complex looms over the city and flocks of foreign visitors and local people show up here daily to pay their respects.
